The California Arts Film Festival is the home of the original film festival, first
held on the West Coast in 1934. The festival was started as a Depression-era festival to present new films created by independent
movie producers and directors hoping to be noticed by the big Hollywood studios.
With the growth of independent filmmakers over the years, the festival attracts more
than 100 original films, motion picture musical scores, and screenplays. Many of today's leading actors and directors were
discovered though their films being shown at this annual event.
The festival workshops' discussion sessions are a goldmine of info, ideas, tips, and
general brainstorming about what makes great films. New partnerships and next year's films often find their start over a cup
coffee or glass of wine while participants are discussing one of the films presented that day. To be where the excitement
is and to be part of filmmaking's future, you must be at the California Arts Film Festival 2008.
